COMPROMISE-ISM !

As a fan of classic Bollywood films, it has been my constant endeavour to watch the best classicals suggested by the critics from this illusionary world. Once in a press conference, the legendary star Dharmendra told about his best movie Satykaam. I had heard a lot about this movie but never got a chance to watch the same. Fortunately, yesterday, I got a chance to watch the movie on DVD. The story goes something like this: Indian has just got independence and the populace of India are in a euphoric mood expecting the positive change on every front. Satyapriya , the male lead of the movie, becomes an engineer, and on the way to his career , he encounters characters who hold diametrically opposite ideals and life styles. The hero desires to carve his new India. And after the severe inter and intra struggle, he succumbs to cancer leaving behind his wife and son. The movie also depicts the love formula and villainous characters too but this is not my topic of discussion. The main thing, I have observed in this ‘Hrishikesh Mukherjee’ classic is that the dishonesty and corruption were treated as blots on one’s personality in that era. In one scene the Hero dislikes and even shouts at the ‘Sifarish System’ and the upcoming tradition of bribery. But now a days, these two are considered as the essential requirements to get a work done and have become an integral part of our day to day life.

Some days ago, I heard a dialogue of the movie "khosla ka ghosla' featuring Vinod Nagpal uttering "O Khosla Sahab, yeh sara desh hi………. compromise pe chal raha hai' .I concluded after these two movies that the word COMPROMISE has got altogether different connotation these days. From first breath to the last we keep on compromising. We Compromise when we do not bother to keep our vehicle documents up dated and we bribe the cop at a crossing and compromise with our conscious and so does he. We compromise with municipality of the city silently regarding pit holes on the roads and other necessary supplies. We compromise with the ego of an officer to the peon. We compromise with the ill behaviour and false egos of MPs and MLAs. We compromise with every injustice starting from the examination hall to the road side. We keep on compromising. The constitution of India needs to be amended. Especially all the definitions of fundamental rights should be incorporated with the word 'With Compromises’. We are brought up and taught to ‘compromise’.

The 200 years of slavery has filled our minds with a sense of inferiority. In ancient times, our ancestors bowed their heads in-front of the Kings and then the 'Zamindaars'. We are carrying those traits even today. A public servant, even today, is supposed to be the 'MAAI BAAP'. We are hauling the six litres of slavery infected blood. If you ask anyone about this tragedy, every one blames our filthy vote bank politics. And I think it is absolutely correct. Who has taught us the by-passes and short cuts? Every political party is sailing in the same boat and propagates the same principle 'U scratch my back and I scratch yours'. This is not only the mockery of democracy but a melodrama too. Every time a Cobra is produced in the form of a bill in the Parliament and then made fang-less by the way of amendments. Let's take an example. Some days ago, two train accidents took place in the home state of Railway Minister and she announced compensation of 5 Lakh each to the victim deceased and I think over 100 of crores of Rupees have been given in such a manner for thelast many years but no Railway Minister has yet employed the anti-collision devices in the trains which definitely costs much much less than the compensations given so far. Now a day, the common wealth games are the hot topic for the media for usage of substandard materials. A nation where 70 crore people are living below poverty line and are leading their lives in just Rs. 20/day it seems wastage to spend such a huge amount to spend on such a huge event. Why the development is always assessed from the point of view of the havs and not tne hace nots when the majority of our population is under nourished. The questions are countless and so are the blames. The main culprit is unknown.

I think India should be declared as 'Compromising Republic'.Why should not the Compromise be declared as national religion and Slogan should be 'Proud to be a compromiser" Aur "Garv se Kaho hum Samjhautavadi' hain. And the Preamble of the Constitution should be read as

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC AND ‘COMPROMISING REPUBLIC’ and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE, social, economic and political with ‘compromises’ with the judiciary;

LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship with ‘compromises’ as sanctioned by the state government;

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity with compromises along with recommendations and bribery;

And to promote among them all FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the political parties and their vote bank politics and the unity and integrity of vote banks by keeping Nation and above stated words at the stake.

You might be thinking of this article as a Sunny Deol's speech from some movie but this is the reality. I am angry and so should every sensitive Indian be because anger leads to action.

    इसके लिए आप अपने ब्लॉग के डैशबोर्ड (dashboard) में जाएँ, फ़िर settings, फ़िर comments, फ़िर { Show word verification for comments?

  5. Dear,
    You express reality in your blog under the title compromise - ism! It is reality that there is compromise and most of the person in India given bribery for their work. In process of recruitment merit is not a criteria;who gives bribery get selection order.
    After reading your blog even if a single person stop giving bribery then mission will be accomplished. Then slowly India will be free from system of compromise-ism. Keep it up for writing such a good eye opening blog.
